This and That

A little this and that catch-up post.

Owen spent his birthday with Daddy.  They toured Daddy's work, hit up an arcade, ate 'o-batchi' (hibachi), and saw the new Superman movie.

The afternoon was spent riding bikes and scooters...and then the ice cream truck came through the neighborhood.  No surprise here...Owen got a batman popsicle and Anderson got a spiderman one.

We had VBS.  Anderson wasn't so sure he wanted to go, but Owen assured him it would be a blast.  Anderson now agrees!  I helped with the 4 year olds...we had 22-26 each night...that's a lot of kids!  A lot of the kids from Anderson's preschool class came and it was fun to see him interact with his friends.  And of course he loved the singing and dancing.  And his friends are all booty shakers too!

We've had a lot of evening storms lately.  Look at this awesome double rainbow after the storms one night.

He made it out with no shots this year...he'll get to have 4 next year for his 5 year/kindergarten visit.

Happy 6th Birthday!

Someone has been super excited for his birthday to arrive this year!  It arrived a few days early with a triple chocolate cake and lots of Batman!

Owen is such a sweet boy and we are so proud of the young man he is becoming...even if he is growing up way too fast.  He is compassionate and loving.  He loves to give gifts.  He wants to understand how everything works and will question until he's got it.  Our quiet boy who we thought was never going to talk is still making up for lost quiet time...especially in the car and during movies!  He's a great helper inside and outside of the house.  He is a great bike rider and loves his newly found independence.  He is a great reader and works hard with his reading, math and piano.  He loves Jesus, our family, the Tar Heels and superheros...Superman and Batman top his list, but he loves them all.  He is very responsible...wakes up to an alarm clock and gets himself all ready for the day.  I am amazed at how much he matured this past year.  He learned so much in kindergarten and is excited for first grade.

The 6 tops things for Owen right now...
1. Spaghetti
2. Pizza
3. Lucky Charms
4. Fruit
5. Green Peppers
6. Cheese
1. Swimming
2. Bike Riding
3. Working with tools
4. Baseball
5. Drawing and coloring
6. Reading

Owen, Mommy, Daddy and Anderson love you so very much.  God has blessed our lives with you and your wonderful spirit and we know God has big plans for you and can't wait to see what they are.  You are an awesome big brother and we are so proud to call you our son.

Evan, Mommy and Daddy love you so very much and miss you everyday.  I often wonder what your personality would be like and how you and Owen would interact and what our family would be like with you here.  I wonder if you'd be risk averse like Owen or a risk taker like Anderson.  I had so many dreams of you and Owen riding your bikes down the street together, sharing late night giggles and tricking people by switching places.  I still grieve those dreams.  I treasure the few short hours we had with you and long to hold you again.  You would be so proud of Owen and how much he has grown this past year.  He knows you are  his twin and in heaven and that he'll be reunited with you one day...he's planning on tricking people by switching places, but I don't know if that will work in heaven.  Owen and Anderson love you as much as mommy and daddy do.  You will always be a part of our family and a part of our hearts.

Great big hugs and birthday wishes to our big 6 year old boys!

Vacation Part 4

Some scenic pictures...

And some pictures of the Atlantic churning with TS Andrea.  Most of the wind and rain was overnight, but the wind and surf was still pretty amazing even though the sky is mostly blue.

And my view across the dinner table:)

Vacation Part 3

We spent the better part of a day at Broadway and a Pelican's game.

 This kid loves a carousel!

Riding the swings...they went so high!

As we were entering the ballpark, we were stopped and asked if they would like to go on the field and say 'Play Ball' after the national anthem.  I think Aaron and I had more fun than the kids did with this.

The mascots came over to greet them...

And Anderson called Splash back over...Splash then picked him up and carried a giggling little Anderson out onto the field.

Anderson had the grounds crew laughing as he was dancing away to the pre-game music.

The manager for the Pelicans stopped to talk to them and he was rehearsing with them what to say.  He held his hand up like a microphone to which Anderson quickly game him pounds instead.
And then it was time...they did a great job!
Owen was cute at the game...he said, 'These guys don't have to line up and bat in number order do they?  Just little guys like me have to do it that way.'  We got rained on a little bit, but had a great night at the ballpark.

Vacation 2013 Part 2

We thought it would be fun to take the kids wasn't.  Hahaha!  They were tired and did not have any patience to sit and wait for a bite...once they finished off the snacks we brought they were ready to go.

This about sums it up!

The pool was a big hit and once they both figured out how to swim, they didn't want to do much more than go swimming in the pool.  Anderson swam across the short way and Owen swam the long way many times.  Not bad for sinking like an anchor when we first got there.
Owen also finally figured out how to swim to the bottom to retrieve items (in this case small landscaping rocks since that was all we had nearby).
They had fun having Aaron take them to sit and lay on the bottom.  The first time Aaron sat on the bottom of the deep end, Owen watched from underwater and came up saying, 'He sat to nicely.  He sat criss cross apple sauce!'  Owen was doing flips and hand stands before the week was over.

We went to the nearby nature preserve for an after dinner walk.

We played mini-golf.  Guess who won???  I did!
Yes, he swung for the fences!  And then he sort of pushed it all around until it made it in the hole.

We spent some time in Bass Pro.  Anderson tried out all of the ATVs and was making some awesome sound effects while he was 'riding' as you can tell from his mouth.

They slept good every night.
