Friday Funnies

Oh my...I wish I could constantly record the chatter around our house.   There are constant funnies courtesy of a cute 5 year old and a cute 3 year old and occasionally a handsome 36...whoops, still 35 years old for a few more days.  There is rarely anything funny from a serious 34 year old....and I assure you if there is, it was inadvertent.

We'll start with Anderson...

He came running into the room I was in and said 'Mommy, Owen is tattling.'  To which I replied, 'he is?  What are you doing?'  His response, 'Telling you.'  Mind you, Aaron wasn't home and I still have no idea who Owen was tattling to.

His recent prayers include versions of the following, 'Please help us to be safe and stay on the road and not fall into the grass or into the water.'  And, 'please help mommy to not broke her car.'  Now, I will say that I firmly believe that it is not my driving and will argue until I'm blue that his concern is from our frequent prayers Daddy's safety as he drives home.

Anderson loves to role play.  I love that the other day he wanted to play his teacher and wanted Owen to be his assistant teacher.  It was cute that he called it 'playing teacher' instead of 'playing school'.

And, on to Owen....

Eating his breakfast of fried eggs over hard....'Anderson, these are my favorite eggs because there is butter in the inside.'  Me:  'That's the yolk, not butter.'  Owen:  'Oh, I'm all done.  Anderson do you want mine?'

We passed a work pickup truck pulling a trailer with some sort of equipment on the back.  Owen said, 'Mommy, that was a girl driving that truck.  I didn't know girls worked.'
Me:  Are you crazy, what do you think Mommy does all the time.  I guess you can do your own laundry and cook your own dinner and clean the house.
Owen:  Not that work, work outside like Daddy's do.
Me:  Who do you think helped your daddy outside before you came along?
Owen:  Oh, it's a good thing I'm here to help Daddy because I'm a good helper.

Owen has music class on Tuesdays.  He came home a couple of weeks ago singing God Bless America.  I was really impressed with how much of it he remembered.  And I enjoyed hearing the mispronunciation of 'Stand beside her and glide her.'

Soccer

Soccer practice has been underway for the past few weeks.  Last Saturday was the first game.  They lost, but had fun.  At half-time, when Owen found out they were switching goals, he said 'Yeah, now we have the easy goal.'  Haha!  It did end up being a bit easier, I guess, since his team scored in the 2nd half.

Some pics of the fun.

This and That

A this and that post for the things too small to fit their own posts.

Owen and I were teaching Anderson how to play Go Fish.  We were using Elmo game cards which have Elmo, a fish bowl and a fish on each card.  He kept asking if we had any elmos, fish bowls, and fish.  He did catch on, but then confused me when he asked if I had an 'apple pine.'  Pineapple!  haha

Anderson is adjusting great to preschool.  With the exception of one day (he was grumpy because he wanted to keep his alligator for show and tell out instead of keeping it in his bag), he runs in and gives his teacher a great big hug. His first day of school, I asked him who he played with and he said 'someone'.  The only other issue so far is one morning he didn't want to hang his bag in his cubby, which is labeled with a turtle, but wanted to hang it in the little girl's next to his which is labeled with a duck.

I love the conversations that happen in the car in the mornings.  I wish I could record them every morning.  They really cover quite a range of topics and often leave me laughing hysterically or with a melted heart because they are so sweet.

In the car a few mornings ago, Owen and Anderson decided that they are going to live next door to each other when they are grown so that Owen can help Anderson with work and cut down trees for him.  He also told me that he's also going to have 3 boys and name them Owen, Anderson and Evan and his Evan is going to be on land.

Another morning, Owen told me he thinks he's going to be an Army man when he grows up.  And, he's going to have a normal car like me and a monster truck so he can drive around in both.  And, he's going to help people when they need work done.

Owen started piano lessons on Thursday.  He was so excited to go and was just as excited to show me what he learned when he got home.

Mini Zoo

We took the kids to a mini zoo/petting zoo nearby last weekend.  Other than the ridiculous heat, we had a great time and saw lots of neat animals.

The donkey and zebra greeted us as we entered the park....and enjoyed the carrots the kids offered.

Anderson loved the turtles and kept wanting to go back to see them.  The 'zoo' has summer camps for kids and the kids and other volunteers were stationed with each animal to tell about the animals and assist in petting them.  Owen's favorite was the big pot bellied pig.

 A baby armadillo.

We saw turtles, birds, snakes, racoons, bobcats, porcupines, opossums, rabbits, a yak, turtles, pigs, a monkey, lizards and more.

Happy Child Labor Day!

This work was all voluntary.  This child loves to clean, especially vacuum.  Every time I get the vacuum out he is underfoot asking if he can have a turn.
