A Must Read

Seriously read this...it is fascinating.

Great Pyramid at Giza

And while I'm suggesting things to read, I've had 2 great books suggested to me recently and would like to suggest them to you. It just so happens they are both on heaven and were suggested by different people.

First, 90 Minutes in Heaven by Don Piper. Pretty short, easy read and very inspiring.

Second, Heaven by Randy Alcorn. One word...wow! This is a much harder read then 90 Minutes is and I'm about 2/3 of the way through, and really enjoying this book. It has been very revealing and thought provoking. And, has really changed much of how I think about heaven and I am ready to be there!

What are you reading now? Any suggestions for me?

Next on my list is Organized Simplicity: The Clutter-Free Approach to Intentional Living by Tsh Oxenreider

What they are saying (and doing)

I think these are some really good ones...

In the tub, laying side by side splashing away...Owen put his arm around Anderson and said 'I love you.' Anderson responded, by looking up, big grin and a 'love you.'

The dogs almost always announce, rather loudly, Aaron's arrival. We were sitting on the couch reading when the dogs sounded the alarm. I hope I can describe this as sweetly as it was...Anderson took a deep breath, formed an 'o' with his mouth and his entire face lit up as he excitedly started looking back and forth. He then hopped down and went to the door saying 'Daddy, Daddy'!

Owen calls short sleeves 'up sleeves' and long sleeves 'down sleeves'.

We've been working on getting Mommy a little privacy around the house. One morning as Owen was getting dressed, he said 'Wesley, go away, I don't have a shirt on and you can't see me.' For those who don't know, Wesley is our girl dog.

And sticking with privacy, Owen was using the restroom and I was vacuuming the hall outside it. He was having a fit that I was in the area (even though not in the room and not paying him any attention). A simple remedy would have been to close the door.

Anderson's newest animal obsession is a pig. We started with dogs, moved to horses and now are on pigs.

If I ask Owen what he wants for breakfast, he most often answers pancakes. I think pancakes are a pain to make, so don't make them too often. On a recent Friday night, Aaron asked me to make them Saturday morning. When Owen got up, I told him that Daddy put a bug in my ear to make pancakes for breakfast. A little while later he said 'Mommy, why did daddy put a bug on a pancake and put it in your ear'?

Riding along in the car, out of the blue, Owen asked, 'Mommy, do I look like a goat'?

Owen knows his letters and numbers, but I had to laugh the other day when he said the clock read 7, 0, up 9 (7:06).

Anderson pushed by me the other day and said 'excuse me'.

Anderson's begun combining words and is a chatter box. He'll repeat anything we say. He's taken to talking on the phone and will usually say 'hi', 'uh-huh', and 'love you'.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

I just realized I hadn't posted this...

My mom had a birthday in January...I won't say how many years, but I will let you know that next year is a big one! We went to visit to celebrate her birthday. Owen helped her make some cookies and wash dishes. I think he may have enjoyed washing dishes more than making cookies! I also think I need to get some of that dishwashing help in my kitchen!

Owen did break poor Julia's little 4 year old heart while we were there. She wanted Owen to sit next to her during dinner, but he didn't want to. Poor girl was quite upset and said that Owen didn't like her. Abby and I took her to the other room to comfort her and Owen eventually followed and gave her a hug. He ended up not sitting next to her, but she was okay with it.

I love Owen's face here...I think I've given her that same expression a time or 2...haha!

So cute!

The Dirt Pile

I came home from work last week to find a 'dirt pile' in the foyer. As you can see, the dirt pile consisted of almost every toy that lives downstairs in our home in one big pile.

The boy and his mess.

He did a great job picking everything up and returning things to their proper homes. We used the 'dirt pile' as a way to clean out some toys. I gave him a bag and told him to put things in it that we could give to other kids who didn't have toys. He got a little carried away and started putting everything in the bag. He did a great job with selecting things to give away and with sorting the other things and putting them back in their homes.

He's a bit of a clean freak and may have had as much fun cleaning up his mess as he did creating it.

One day a few weeks ago, I yelled up the stairs to see if he was brushing his teeth. He yelled back that he was going to but that he was working on the drawer and I needed to come see it. He had organized the top drawer in the bathroom, laying out the extra toothpaste and toothbrushes and making the drawer nice and neat. Yep, he's his daddy's boy for sure!

Friday Night Fun

Friday night with the kids...they get to stay up a little later so we have time to do messier and/or longer activities than we normally get to do on a weeknight.

For some reason, I kept having to remind Anderson to not eat the play-doh! Does someone need more salt in his diet?

Owen is intense!

Every time we'd fill this thing and get a fun shape, Anderson said 'wow'!

Naked Crocodile

Anderson has been doing so good with the potty. If we leave him bare-bottomed, he'll use it on his own when he needs to go. When wearing undies, he's telling us as he goes...we're still working on getting info out earlier! You can't go naked forever kid!

He rediscovered his too small from last summer crocs and has insisted on wearing them. He tried to be self-sufficient...

main problem was because they are too small and on the wrong feet, they kept coming off, which was making him super angry. I thought it was hilarious to see his naked bottom wandering around with too small shoes on the wrong feet.

Don't take my picture!

Anderson was playing in the bucket and having a grand ole time...until the camera showed up. The normal 'cheese' and big smile were no where to be found and were instead replaced with this...

Once I put the camera away, he happily resumed playing.

More Food and Letter Fun

Like I said in the last post, food is more fun when you can play with it. We have lots of letter talk around our house these days and I thought it would be fun to have a hands on letter activity. So, Owen and I took some time to make soft pretzels. We made some traditional pretzel shapes and some letters, some other shapes and some blobs.

I didn't get the best pictures since my hands were in the dough, but we had a great time and we all enjoyed eating the pretzels.

Owen started off making the letters for his name, switched to making Evan and ended up doing some blobs. I guess a 'v' is a bit easier to make from dough than a 'w'.

As I mentioned above, Owen wanted to spell Evan's name. Owen is starting to understand and talk and ask about Evan more and more. It is so sweet for me to hear his little voice say 'Evan.' His questions are sometimes difficult to answer...more from a not knowing how to answer so that he can understand than from an emotionally difficult point right now. I can almost see the wheels turning in his head as he tries to process who God is and who Evan is, where they are, and where heaven is, and how Jesus can live in our hearts. It is really a wonderful opportunity and blessing to share God with a child. I got Randy Alcorn's book Heaven from the library and Owen was carrying it in the house for me. He asked what it was and I said a book on heaven and his sweet reply was, 'where Jesus and Evan live!?'

'O' the fun

Oh, the fun we have with olives!

Owen and his 'O' breakfast...olives, oatmeal and orange juice...his menu combining skills.

Food tastes so much better when you can have fun with it!!
