18 Month Stats

Well, we had Mr. Anderson's 18 month checkup this morning...and...he's still little. Haha...we knew that!

He did great at the checkup and just got 1 shot. He cried during the shot, but once I stood him up he was back to laughing. His eardrum, which ruptured just over a week ago, is all healed up and he just has a little fluid left. We hope to go at least another 18 months before sick visit #2.

He may be small, but he is doing great on his development and is closer to the 2 year old range on most of the developmental aspects they check at a well check. He can name and point out several body parts, used his first 2 word combination this past weekend, is running, climbing and throwing wonderful temper tantrums.

He's 23 pounds (all the way up to the 20th percentile!!) and 30 inches...holding steady in the 5th percentile. So much for our full-term baby being our big one.

For reference, Owen was 23 pounds 12 oz and is 32 inches tall...in the 25th percentile for both at 18 months. So, they are pretty close in size. I think Anderson eats better than Owen did, but is much more active...maybe that's the difference.

18 Months!

Guess who is 18 months today? I know, already!!

And here's a little of what he is up to...
1. Talking up a storm...I started a list today of his words since we have a well-check next week. In about 5 minutes I'm almost to 50 words that he uses regularly and he will repeat anything we say.
2. Still loves that right thumb and his blanket.
3. Wants to do everything big brother is doing.
4. His favorite toys are kitchen things, tools, books, blocks and cars
5. He loves loves loves dogs!
6. Is transitioning to a daddy's boy...hey, at least I got the first 18 months:)
7. Is nuts about phones
8. Has the cutest 'hi' and 'bye' wave.
9. Has a mouth full of teeth, final 4 before his 2 year molars are coming in now for a total of 8 on top and 8 on bottom.
10. Wants to be outside every moment of every day.
11. Is still a crazy good eater...favorites include cheese, eggs, toast, and anything sweet and loves some milk.
12. Loves to rough house, climb and jump.
13. Sleeps 12 hours a night, most of the time with his blanket completely covering his head.
14. Calls all animals dogs
15. Can hold his own in a fight with Owen over toys
16. His favorite book is Goodnight Moon, he looks for the old lady and then 'hushes' over and over.
17. Is in process of figuring out how to undress. I have found him several times in the morning and after nap without pants (they end up in the middle of his room).
18. Is such a fun child to parent. He makes me laugh and keeps me on my toes...I'm never sure what trouble he'll get into next. His laughter is contagious and he smiles and laughs with his entire body.

I love you little Anderson!

Christmas Cards

Who doesn't love to get Christmas cards...especially those with pictures?!

I've been on an every other year sending pattern, but Shutterfly is going to break the pattern for me. You see, they are giving bloggers 50 free holiday cards! I've used Shutterfly several other times to order prints and photo books and have had great experiences. When I saw the promotion on Money Saving Mom, I jumped over to Shutterfly to see the card styles they have available...wow! They have so much to choose from...over 500 designs! I've not completely decided the card that will grace your refrigerator this Christmas season, but do know that it will be one with room for several pictures...maybe this, or this, or this. It is so hard to choose just 1 picture of the many I've taken this past year I love that Shutterfly has so many options...and they make it easy to get the perfect card. Now, on to make the final decision about card design and to browse the other personalized products that make great Christmas gifts.

Bed!

Somebody got a new big bed!

It's great for jumping on...someone needs to put a stop to that!

And he and Anderson helped disassemble the old and assemble the new...

And the new view of the room...

Owen loves his big bed! He used to sleep all scrunched up, but is now sleeping sprawled out. And, it is so much more comfortable for me and Aaron.

BTW, Anderson and the dogs are loving the new big bed too.

The things they say...

Time for another installment of The Things They Say!

Owen went through a (thankfully) short phase of coming out of his room in the middle of the night. He started coming downstairs, getting a blanket and curling up on the couch. Our problem wasn't so much with relocating to the couch as it was the relocating...coming down the stairs in the middle of the night. One morning, Aaron found Owen on the top step. Not the landing...the step! Ok, I definitely vote for the couch over the step. He had a blanket and some books. Aaron scooped him up to take him back to bed. First thing out of Owen's mouth..."Daddy, you picked me up like a front loader."

Aaron's mom, Grandma JuJu teasingly calls Owen 'stinkin' rotten'. Owen repeats it as 'stinkin' robbin.'

We had our first frost of the season a week or so ago. Owen got looked out the window and excitedly said "Mommy, it snowed!" Me: "No, honey, that's frost." O: "No, Mommy, it snowed!"

Aaron likes his OJ with pulp, so that is what Owen is used to. I gave him some pulp-free the other day. He took a couple sips and said, "Mommy, I like it better when it has p ped in it." Confused at first, I finally figured out he meant pulp.

Owen loves to go get the papers for me on Wednesdays and Sundays. Last Sunday morning, I went out with him. He picked the paper up, looked up to the sky and said, "Mommy, how do the papers get here?"

Wrinkles in paper, clothing etc are called scribbles.

VW Beetles and any other similar-type shaped cars are called 'ladybug cars'.

We always back into our spot at church. I've learned that even though I don't think we'll fit, we will. Owen has taken over asking, "Do we fit?" as soon as Aaron puts the car in reverse.

Anderson has been chatting away as well. He recently said his name for the first time.

Riding home from church last Sunday, he was making so much noise and we finally figured out that he was singing 'Jesus Loves Me'. We started singing other songs and started on B-I-B-L-E. Anderson started saying Bible over and over while we sang. I'd never heard him say Bible before that point. He has since tried to sing B-I-B-L-E.

For a while now, Anderson would answer any question with 'uh-huh'. Well, Owen is still stuck in the 'why' phase. Great, now Anderson is answering with 'why'!

For months, we and the babysitter have been trying to get Anderson to say 'up' when he wants to be held instead of just standing at our feet and whining/crying. Breakthrough! He came over this morning, held his arms up and said 'up' without any prompting.

He's somewhat saying "yes, ma'am"...guess all that correcting he's hearing us do with Owen is paying off.

And, a pitiful tale...During breakfast last week, there was a knock on the door. The dogs did their guard dog bit and barked. Anderson, got scared, as he tends to do when the dogs got nuts. He knocked over his breakfast. I answered the door and came back to clean up Anderson's breakfast. The poor kid's hands were just shaking. So so pitiful. I got him out of his seat and gave him some cuddles until he recovered.

Bed

One of Owen's responsibilities is to make his bed each morning. He does such a great job with it that I had to snap a picture to share. This is how his bed looks most mornings. He was a little confused as to why I was taking a picture of his bed and told me elphanant (still his pronunciation) was still tired.

He is ready to switch to a big bed...I just hate to see how much of his play area will be taken up by it. Hopefully he'll be able to make that up as nicely.

Hanging out

Just chillin' drinking some milk.

Dinner time

When Aaron is home for dinner, he has a difficult time eating. Since Owen was about Anderson's current age, he has often wanted to eat dinner on Aaron's lap (which, I'm told, is how Aaron ate when he was that age). Well, Anderson has decided that he needs to be there too.

Whistle Blower

While making dinner the other night, I noticed that Anderson had gotten pretty quiet, except for an occasional whistle blow...which usually means he's into something he's not supposed to be in.

He was quite entertained playing with this portable workbench and taking an occasional blow of the whistle.

Dancing Fireman

The Halloween costume has finally been put away, but not before this...

And here's a video...sorry it is sideways...I used the camera instead of the video camera. I don't remember the last time I laughed as hard as I did when watching one of these videos in slow motion. We got about 4 videos...including one with a completely naked little brother. What a good laugh.

Sugar and Goldfish

Last night, my husband brought it to my attention that I hadn't updated the blog in a week. So, here's the update for last Saturday...

We froze last weekend at a neighborhood picnic. They started out in the wagon, but then Owen needed to pull it. Owen had a very nutritious lunch of a few hush puppies, cake, a chocolate chip cookie and his first cotton candy. Can anyone say sugar high? At least there was a bounce house where he burned some of the sugar off.

Dinner was much more nutritious as we celebrated my dad's birthday sans cake since we'd already had too much sugar for the month. I asked Owen to set the table and he switched out a chair for Anderson and took it upon himself to distribute an appetizer to all. Yes, those are goldfish set out on each napkin. And, yes those are his pjs on the table. No, I don't know why.

Color time

Owen loves to color and is very serious about staying inside the lines. Anderson is learning that crayons are for drawing, not eating (same goes for sidewalk chalk, buddy).

Happy Halloween!

We kicked Halloween off early with a Fall Festival at Owen's preschool.

Working on his craft for the day...decorating a pumpkin.

Dressed up in a rare picture with me.

Then we carved a pumpkin...

Anderson made it a little more difficult for Aaron.

Completed pumpkin...

Owen was so excited to go trick-or-treating and was asking all day. Anderson was not very thrilled with wearing a costume, but lightened up once he figured out we got to be outside. Anderson is Smokey the Bear, but you can't see the top of his hat in any of my pictures.

Grandma JuJu and Granny stopped by to see the costumes...Jordan was pretending to be a fire dog.

And, a front porch shot...

We had a great Halloween and Owen is still wanting to wear his costume every day.
