Getting Clean

Bath time is a kid favorite around our house. They have so much fun in the tub, but I'm usually too busy to get a picture or think about it once they're already in and I can't leave to go get the camera. Daddy is the best bath giver and I popped in the other night to take a few pics.

Major splashing from the little guy...I promise, it's not ice water.

15 Month Stats

This little cutie turned 15 months last week. We had his well-check this morning.

He weighed in at 21 lbs 14 oz...moved up from 5th percentile to 7th (but the diaper 30 minutes later may have moved him back to the 5th)...I know...gross and tmi!
He didn't grow too much in length, but had grown a lot from 9 months to 12 months...he is 29 3/4 inches...about 12th percentile.

All 4 of his first set of molars are on there way in, as are 2 other bottom teeth. You'd think that would make him cranky, but no, he's a happy guy!

He's meeting or exceeding all of his developmental milestones and talking up a storm. My quick in my head word list came up to 15 words. I'm guessing I missed a few. He's started answering questions with 'uh-huh' and says 'dank do' when handed something.

Anderson is one tough cookie...so much so that his nickname could be changing from 'squirt' to 'bruiser'. He has a great Tarzan-esk yell that he lets out when someone tries to take something from him.

He's still a great eater although he did have a brief slowdown a couple weeks ago. Like his big brother, milk and cheese top the list as favorites.

We get the best hugs and kisses from Anderson...once he gets going on kissing, we get tons of them...open mouthed and finally some closed mouth kisses.

He's giving high-5s and we're working on fist bumps. He's running and getting faster every day. He loves balls and cars. He makes 'zoom zoom' noises while playing with his cars.

I cannot imagine our family without Anderson...it's hard to believe he's been with us such a short time. He's such a fun little guy, has the sweetest nature and along with his big brothers, has stolen my heart!

More Owenisms

I need to download pictures from the camera, but in the meantime, a few recent funnies from Owen...

Looking at a book with a baby, Owen pointed to the baby's mouth and asked what was in it. I replied 'that's a pacifier.' A few days later and another book, "look mommy, that baby has a fire in his mouth too."

Owen wanted our dog Jordan to accompany him to the bathroom yesterday. Jordan wanted to continue laying where he was. After Owen called to him several times and Jordan showed no intent to go with him, Owen sat down in front of him and said "Jordan, we need to have a talk." He then put his hand under Jordan's chin and lifted his head up and said "look at me while we talk."

So he does hear me!

Outside Play

Those of you who live here know that it's been hot...like really, really hot. Which means, we have not spent much time outside lately. But, we did get a chance a few weeks back to head out for some family play time.

I love this picture...Owen on the left, Evan's tree in the middle and Anderson on the right...birth order. Can you believe how big Evan's tree has gotten?

Daddy waiting his turn...or maybe giving a bit of instruction before they head off to paint.

Anderson took a ride on the swing and a few times down the slide (he loves the slide!)

Then investigated the trailer. He was playing in the water collected on the spare tire, but I didn't get a picture of that.

A new toy

We got a new family toy...thanks to my employer...yeah, they're cool like that.

Owen loves the new iPad and is already a pro. His favorites are the Itsy Bitsy Spider, Wheels on the Bus, a memory game and a phonics game. Anderson likes to watch too, but hasn't had much time with the toy yet. Me, I have discovered Tap n pop and the old standby of solitaire. And, I'm loving having Pandora going while I'm cooking and getting ready in the morning. Aaron...all about the sports stats, searching sports memorabilia and other things which I think we have no purpose for:)

Any app suggestions for us?

Real Food

Somebody is hungry...he's always hungry! I don't know how he is so tiny...this kid can eat!

Over the past year or so, we've been making a switch to real food...not that we ate a lot of processed food before, but really trying to go back to basic traditional foods. So what are some things we've done? We purchased a quarter of grass-fed and finished cow a few months ago, we've found a local source for farm fresh eggs, we supplement the garden with a subscription to a local produce box and we found some local milk from grassfed cows that is only minimally pasteurized. We've made the decision to avoid HFCS (just google HFCS dangers and you'll probably be convinced as well) and artificial sweeteners. Local honey and real maple syrup taste so much better! I'm making sourdough bread every few weeks (let me know if you want some starter) and stocking the freezer with homemade goodies for breakfast options (including the muffins Anderson is eagerly awaiting above). I am spending a little more time in the kitchen these days and have more changes I still want to implement. I have my eye on a couple of fun (and expensive) kitchen gadgets. I'm having fun trying new recipes and feeding my family nutritious food. I'm fascinated with learning about traditional foods, their preparations and how to implement them into our lives.

Cornered

Anderson loves to be caught hiding and loves to sneak into corners...this corner has been his recent favorite.

And when done smiling, in goes the thumb.

Then, big brother wanted in on the picture...I love how he's trying to keep an eye on Anderson.

Owen Chat

It's been a while since I've posted some Owen-isms....well, I got a couple from this weekend.

Anderson was rolling on the bathroom floor, kicking his legs, crying...basically pitching a great 14 month fit because I took his toothbrush away. Owen looked at him, looked at me, looked back at Anderson and said "Oh Mommy, what are we going to do with that kid."

The next day, Anderson was whining a bit and I heard Owen say "Anderson, this is a no-whine zone."

We had BLTs for dinner the other night (on super-yummy homemade sourdough bread). The next night, Owen said "I want a sandwich like I had last night for dinner."

I find it so funny that Owen repeats back what we say but in context of Anderson.

Few Word Wednesday

Can you see it?

The piece of corn stuck in his belly button? Haha!

Table for 2

Owen wanted Anderson to sit with him at the small table for breakfast. I'm not quite ready to turn Anderson loose with his food yet. So, we compromised...

They were enjoying one of Owen's favorite breakfasts...fried eggs with homemade sourdough bread toast. He comes down the stairs and asks for an egg most mornings.

Blackmail

Oh yeah, these are for sure future blackmail pictures. Owen found this floaty/swim suit in his closet from last year and his Daddy convinced him to try it on. We were laughing so hard that I'm surprised any of the pictures turned out.

I think Anderson was banging on the door saying get me out of here before they try to put me in it!

Hiding in the tent

Lots of Anderson pictures in this posting batch. And, if you haven't noticed, he's spending a lot of time in just a diaper since it's been 500 degrees! Plus, it's less laundry!

Both Owen and Anderson love to play in the tent. I love these pictures of Anderson hiding out. He runs to the tent and gets inside to hide from me and giggles like crazy when he's found.

Shoes are made for Walking

Apparently, shoes are fun!

I'm very bad about leaving my shoes all around the house. Even with Owen putting them away for me, there is almost always a pair laying around. Anderson loves to find them and try to walk in them! And, he sometimes pulls it off...

I have a video blogger isn't loading, so check back.

Aww!

The stairs = his favorite place to play. Yes, there have been tumbles.

Get to work, Boy!

It's high time Anderson had some chores. We gave him a pass on almost his entire first year. But, he sure has been busy.

He has to sweep the inside,

And cut the grass,
Front yard with the push mower,

And we'll let him use the rider for the backyard.

He has to feed the dogs and supervise while they eat.

He has to sweep the shed ramp.

Then sweep the grass clippings.

And, finally, he needs to powerwash the house.

I'm not sure why most of his work is helping his daddy...I think I need more help in the house!

Greenwing

The local Ducks Unlimited group held their 3rd annual Greenwing Fishing Event. What a great family time! Our buddies the Fitts and Denning Families were also there and for mid-July in this incredible hot summer, the weather was excellent.

Owen started off by shooting a bb gun. Ok, this was hilarious!
The wildlife officer asked him what hand he writes with...notice he has his right hand up. We still don't know what handed he is. We are leaning toward left, but then he surprises us and uses the right.

And getting lined up. Instead of releasing the trigger after each shot, he kept wanting to pull it harder to shoot again. And, he looked at the officer while shooting instead of at the target.

You can sort of see it in this picture...Owen would kick his leg up on every shot.

Only one of his shots hit the target, and it was really close to the bulls eye.

They had hunting dog and police dog demonstrations. The hunting dog showed off in the field and in the water.

Then it was time to fish. Owen was so excited to go fishing!
Daddy helped bait the hook.

Then helped cast the line.

And provided some fishing instruction.

Meanwhile, my job was to keep Anderson from plunging headfirst into the pond and to keep him from trying to eat the bait.
