Rascal Flatts

Guess what I did this weekend...Took an impromptu trip out of town and had a blast with Jennifer at a Rascal Flatts concert.

Her bil got the tickets from work, but was unable to go. We had meet and greet passes and awesome 2nd row, we got in some much needed girl time! And bonus, the concert was so good.

Cousin Group Pics

We've had a few recent get-togethers (saw Abby and her kids 3 times in one week!) and attempted group photos of the kids....hard thing to accomplish when you have groups of 5 and 7 that are 4 and under.

Lindsay was in town and we all met up at Dad and Cindi's. Forgive Anderson's diaper hanging out...I'd just changed him and gave up trying to get him re-snapped.

Julia (3), Will (2), Anderson (1), Emerson (4), Addison (almost 2), Owen (3), Elise (2 mths)
Owen was excited to hold Baby Elise and gave her some unprompted kisses.

Earlier in the night, the dinner shot was very successful, but is missing Anderson and Elise. Side note, Anderson had pizza for the first was a hit!

And the 4 big kids posed nicely for a picture.

Grandma Sue with Anderson, Will, Elise, Owen, and Julia after Elise's baptism. Abby and I didn't plan, but Will, Owen and Anderson coordinated nicely.

I didn't even realize that Owen had Elise until I uploaded the pictures.

And then, Julia stole her back.

Then Owen decided we were done.

Ok, one more try.

We give up!

Morning Phone Call

Pre-kids, Aaron and I would talk on the phone each morning after I arrived at work...just a check-in to make sure we both arrived safely and to wish each other a good day.

When Owen was a baby, the phone call got moved up to right after Owen was dropped off at the babysitter's house. The conversation was more of a how is Owen this morning and a drive safe.

About a year and a half ago, the phone call was again moved up and is now made before the kids and I leave the house so they can talk to Daddy on the phone. It is amazing the conversations that Owen and Aaron now have compared to the initial/occasional hi. They now have full conversations and the one yesterday morning cracked me up.

Aaron told Owen that Grandma was picking him up that afternoon. He asked Aaron where he would be and Aaron replied that he had a baseball game. To which Owen replied 'pray for rain.' Note: this was not because he didn't want to see Grandma...Aaron's game the night before had been rained out, and as you know...this kid loves his daddy!

I'm not sure what the conversation was this morning, but I did hear Owen say, 'absolutely.'

Just a few pics

Just a few cute pics from last week. Check out the tans these kids have. Uncle Todd certainly doesn't approve!

Working Hard

The past few times Aaron's cut the grass, I've looked out in the backyard and found Owen following his Daddy's mower. He has such a serious expression on his face as he navigates the turns.

He also climbed up on the shed roof to hammer down some nails that came through when Aaron finished the screen to keep the birds and other critters out.

Birthday Afternoon

Owen's party kicked off without him. He was so tired out from his morning that I had to wake him up once everyone arrived.

Conversation from earlier in the week...
me: Owen, what do you want on your birthday cake?
Owen: jellybeans!
me: What kind of cake do you want, chocolate, white or yellow?
Owen: yellow
me: Do you want me to buy it or make it?
Owen: I want you to make it and I'll help you. We'll do it after Anderson goes to bed.
me: What icing do you want, chocolate or vanilla?
Owen: vanilla

Now he surprised me with his lack of chocolate for his cake...he's quite the chocolate fan. I asked him several times during the week. I guess he had enough of it, because when I asked again Thursday during dinner, he replied, "Mommy, I told you, I don't want a chocolate cake, I want a yellow cake!"

Owen did help me make a cake, but the first one seemed a little heavy. So, I made another one while he was on his morning adventure. Cake decorator, I am not. Here's what he ended up with...I made a caramel icing for the middle. The cake was a little dry, but the icing was good.

Owen grilled through much of the party.

While we were singing Happy Birthday to my big boy...

I wish I'd gotten a picture of his plate. He picked all the jelly beans off, ate the cake and left the jelly beans untouched.
Owen took a break from grilling to open presents.

He had some cute little helpers.

A few other pics from the afternoon.

He finished up the day with a swim next door.

Birthday Morning

Lots to share about Owen's birthday so I'll divide into 2 parts.

Owen spent his morning on a shopping and lunch trip with Papa and Grandma Cindi. While he was gone, Anderson and I did some shopping, made Owen's cake and did some cleaning.

Papa and GC came and picked him up for the adventure.

First stop was TRU so he could pick out a birthday present.

Ooh...look at these!

Papa making a call to me to get some clarification on what was already at our house.

The decision...

And, since Grandparents can't say no, especially on birthdays...a ride with a frog.

Successful shopping trip.

Next stop...Chick-fil-a...and the cow was there! For the first time, he wasn't terrified of the cow.

After eating,

Time to play.

Then, time to come home and assemble the grill.

And get dressed to grill.

Anderson was a little tired...I kept him up from his nap a bit so he could see Papa and Grandma Cindi...he was ready for some snuggles.

Thanks, Papa and GC for the fun time you gave Owen and the gifts and the pictures to document it. Owen had a great time!

Part 2 will continue after naps.

Happy 3rd Birthday!

Wow, it's already been 3 years and it feels like just yesterday. Happy Birthday to our sweet boys. We love you both so very much.

You are such a blessing to us and an incredible little man. I am amazed at how you've grown and developed over the past 3 years. I've been crazy in love with you since the moment I knew you existed. Your smile brightens our world. You make me laugh every day. You are a little sponge, always listening and modeling us. You are a wonderful big brother and incredibly caring and loving. You love to help both your mommy and daddy with everything around the house from building, to cutting the grass to cooking dinner and vacuuming. You love to 'marker' and play playdough. You love to read books. You give the best hugs and kisses. You like things to be n their proper places. You know your alphabet, can count to 20, know your colors, recognize most of your letters and numbers. You always want us to try your dinner. You do not like to drink your milk from a big boy cup. You love babies...especially your new cousin Elise. You are Daddy's little shadow. I know God has special things in store for you and your life. We praise God for blessing us with this time with you. I love you, buddy!

You will forever be our baby. We love you so much and miss you every day. We don't know or understand why God took you home to heaven, but trust in Him and His plan for all of us. We treasure the little bit of time we had with you and the pictures and mementos we have to remember you by. Your short life has touched us in an immeasurable way. I love you, baby!

Blueberries are a hit around our house. Without thinking, I handed Anderson some blueberries in a container (I normally just put them on his tray). He did a great job...I was expecting them and the container to be all over the floor. I think it's a toss up on what food gets shoveled in his mouth the fastest...blueberries or cheese.

Elmo's Green Thumb

We went to see Sesame Street Live and Elmo's Green Thumb. This was Owen's first show and he was so excited to see Elmo and the show did not disappoint. The grin on his face during the show was priceless. The show was just the right length, Owen was starting to get antsy toward the end.

Owen had popcorn for the first time and loved it!

Our buddy Hudson's seats were right behind us...I tried to get a good pic of them together, but this is the best I got.

Telly and Grover said Hello to Owen.
