1 Year Stats

We had Anderson's 1 year well visit this morning. We made it through his entire first year without a sick visit yay!!

At one year, he is 18 lbs 15 oz (back up to 5th percentile) and 28 1/3 inches which is up to the 25th percentile! He's been steadily moving up in length percentiles. He's basically the same size Owen was at 1.

Their computer system was down so the appointment took FOREVER! Do you know how hard it is to contain a 1 year old and an almost 3 year old in a tiny exam room for nearly an hour!

Jump, jump, jump

We celebrated Anderson's birthday by jumping and sliding. Owen had a blast and Anderson even got into the action. Madelyn joined us, but wasn't feeling well. Lots of pics and videos. video

Sorry for the quality...but they were on the move!

And, for those of you who like the crab crawl...here's another video and probably one of our last since he's walking more and more. video

More conversing with Owen

I know I've said it a few times, but I love the things Owen says and love watching his imagination developing. Here's a sampling of recent conversations...

While walking down the street last week, he looked up and the sky was mostly clouds with a little bit of Carolina Blue peeking through. He said 'look mommy, go tarheels in the sky'.

Aaron was being silly in the car last weekend and Owen's response was 'Daddy, what are we going to do with you?' followed by 'oh, daddy, daddy, daddy'.

Phones are a popular play item in our house. Owen was having a pretend conversation on the phone. When I asked him a question, he said 'hold on dustbusters', answered my question and went back to talking away.

Playing in the yard with a neighborhood friend, he said he was a monster. The other kid's dad asked what kind of monster he was and he replied 'a teddy bear monster' which was followed by a growl.

We get a weekly produce box from a local service. He saw the box on the counter last week and got all excited and said 'yay, beets for dinner'! He eats beets really well, but I can't help but wonder if some of the appeal is that I make him take his shirt off to eat them.

Owen asked me yesterday if I wanted to do something and when I said no, he followed up with 'are you sure'?

Happy 1st Birthday Anderson!

Oh how I love this little boy! He is such a little sweetheart and has the best laugh and smile. I can't wait to see what God has in store for his life. It's hard to believe a year has already gone by, but I can't imagine our family without Anserin (as Owen says it). He is so full of life and energy and has been a complete blessing to our family.

At 12 months, in addition to loving his thumb, he
1. is walking all over and getting faster every day
2. is saying mama, dada, ball and uh-oh and is working on dog...he's very vocal
3. hates wearing shoes
4. is an awesome eater...especially loves asparagus and beets and cheese, but hates to have his face cleaned off. He even eats all kinds of meat.
5. is a water bug...he loves water in any capacity and hates to get out of the tub
6. thinks sippy cups are only for juice and water...he hates to drink his milk from a sippy
7. knows what he wants and wants it when he wants it (he's already pretty good at throwing a fit when denied)
8. loves phones and remotes
9. gives the best open-mouthed sugars (kisses)
10. knows about noses (will point to my nose when I ask him where it is)
11. loves his big brother
12. loves to look at books

And, a 13th for good luck...loves to be carried.

Happy Birthday Baby! Mommy, Daddy and your big brothers love you so very much!

Playset

So as you saw in Anderson's birthday party pics...we got a playset for the backyard for the boys for their birthdays. It's been a big hit already. The afternoon we picked it up, Owen asked Aaron to go ahead and put it together so he could play on it that night. Not so easy, buddy!

With Aaron's schedule, he had trouble finding time to work on the playset, but it did get finished.

I helped...I put all those little screws in:) I really did a little more than that (not much more, but a little more). This is embarrassing, but I'll go ahead and admit it...Owen ratcheted a bolt faster than I did. And, when we were done working for the day, we carried tools back to the garage. I just put them on the floor since we'd be using them again that evening. Owen picked them up and put them away in their proper place.

No daylight, no problem.

Almost done...

Butterfly Visit

A lot of people use butterflies to signify their angels. There was an all white one flying around our yard all afternoon during Anderson's party. After most people had left, Owen was out back and the butterfly came by him and he reached out for it.

We don't see too many butterflies back there. I know the butterfly isn't Evan, but I choose to take its presence as Evan stopping by on a special day to say hello and celebrate with us. This wasn't the first time during a family event we've had a butterfly hang out with us and it always takes my breath away a bit when I realize one is with us.

Party like a 1 year old

We had a blast partying it up like a 1 year old over the weekend...too bad no one at the party was actually 1! But, Anderson will be so very soon.

The rain held off and the kiddos got to play outside a bit.

Daddy and Owen helped Anderson open his gifts.

The Birthday Boy eagerly awaiting his cupcake.

Hmm...what do I do now?

Are you sure?

What you don't see is the gagging that ensued with the first bite, but that is captured on video.

He did get the hang of it, but Owen was the real fan of Anderson's cupcake...I'm not sure if it was the fact of Elmo or of the chocolate. Owen ate a couple bites of the big cake and then asked if he could have more of brother's cake. All in all, Anderson was much less messy than Owen was.

Anderson, telling Papa all about the cake and party experience.

And no 1 year old party is complete without a trip to the sink.

And, a pic with Mommy...No, I didn't know he had gotten red icing all over my face, but I did manage to keep my white shirt white!

Daddy's Stuck

Aaron's baseball game the other night went into extra innings. He called to tell us he was on his way home and told Owen that he'd gotten stuck at the game. Owen didn't understand the context and was so worried about his daddy being stuck. With worry on his face, he kept telling me over and over that daddy was stuck. Then he said, 'Daddy's stuck in the basketball goal. The ball can't go through because Daddy's stuck. The man needs to get a ladder to get Daddy out of the basketball goal.' I tried unsuccessfully to explain to Owen that Daddy wasn't physically stuck, but to no avail.

When Aaron got home, Owen was so excited to see that Daddy had gotten un-stuck. The next morning, he was very happy to tell me that Daddy wasn't stuck anymore.

More together fun

Owen really wants to play with Anderson and sometimes gets frustrated that Anderson can't/won't play how he wants to. Owen is such a good big brother and they do have fun together and it's happening more and more often.

These are actually really happy faces from Anderson...he was squealing in delight.

Looks like Owen was taking a moment to teach Anderson a bit about the hinges and how they work.

Look at Anderson!

Anderson gave me an early birthday present (it's today for those of you who'd like to send birthday wishes). He's had a few months of cruising the furniture and several weeks of taking 2-6 steps. He spent most of last weekend walking everywhere he could while holding onto just 1 finger. By Sunday afternoon, he was ready to turn loose and was even better yesterday! video

Brown Bear, Brown Bear

I love the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear. It's great for teaching little ones colors and animals and a great book for them to 'read' along with. Owen picked it up a few weeks ago, turned to the teacher page and said 'teacher, teacher, what are you looking at?'

For those not regularly reading children's lit...the actual words are 'teacher, teacher, what do you see?'

Modified Crawl

video
I thought I'd post this video separately. This is Anderson's 'the surface is a bit hard' crawl. He does this on any non-carpeted surface. I also really like how he is keeping his sucking thumb germ free!

Outside Play

I am so ready for Anderson to be a walker...the boys love to be outside, but it is difficult for Anderson. He's not a fan of grass and concrete is difficult to crawl on. But, we are still out quite a bit.

Some pics and videos from a recent afternoon.

He's able to push himself backwards in the car.

Meeting Elise

I took the kids to my sister's to meet Baby Elise...Owen was in love! He was so sweet with her and gave her tons of hugs and kisses.

I didn't really get good pictures.

Owen saw Julia being silly and decided to try it too.
