Snowed in

We got a snow storm Friday night. Owen was so excited when he got up Saturday morning. It was sleeting all morning and not very conducive to outdoor play, but they forged ahead anyway. They tried to make snowballs and Owen really wants to build a snowman, but the snow isn't good for it.

I used to love to play in the snow and it is fun to see Owen's excitement. Anderson didn't seem to be real impressed with his first snow.

Happy Visit

Owen had his first 'happy' visit to the dentist. He was a little hesitant at first, but then let the dentist look around in there and count his teeth. He has 8 upstairs teeth and 8 downstairs teeth. He showed her how he brushes his teeth and came home with a spiffy new toothbrush and he met Mr. Thirsty.

Guess who is 8 months old today...that's 2/3 of a year! My little crazy monkey is growing up so fast.

Here are 8 things he's up to:
1. Crawling all over the place
2. Pulling up and walking all around the house holding our hands
3. Learning how gravity works when he lets go while standing on unsteady legs
4. Loving solid food
5. Still waiting for that first tooth and chewing on everything he can get his hands on
6. Sleeping like a champ
7. Babbling away...we are working hard on 'Mama' being his first word
8. Totally loving his mommy, daddy and big brother

And a us the cutest smiles and best giggles!

I'd been hoping this would never come to pass...I've been initiated into a new class of know, the class that involves vomit.

Poor Owen came down with a stomach bug yesterday afternoon that culminated in us both having to take a shower at 9:00 last night...I think you can figure out why. When your spouse has a business doing crime scene cleanup, it seem like you should get a pass on dealing with this type of situation...he's the expert in cleaning up not so pleasant things, right? But, the hubs was 3 hours away at a basketball game, so mom got the job.

Owen and I both survived what I hope is the worst of the bug. He was so pitiful and it was so much harder not being able to make him feel better than it was dealing with the mess. However, I did get lots of good snuggle time from my boy who is often too busy to snuggle.

Big Kid Conversations

When we had Owen's 1 year developmental evaluation done, he was graded as significantly delayed in verbal communication...about the level of a 6 month old. Even though I knew he really wasn't that behind, he was just really quiet because he wasn't completely comfortable, I still got the 'mommy worries'. Jessica gave me some great tips and, even though we haven't had him re-evaluated, we have no concerns with his verbal skills.

He's using bigger in point...we were at the park last weekend. When our friends pulled up he said 'Mommy, I'm so excited'. Again at the park this weekend (come on spring!), he said 'I'll probably go down the slide again'. It's bittersweet...he's growing up too fast!

And a funny conversation, we were behind a car burning oil. I commented on how the car was stinky and he said it had poopies on it.

The communication isn't limited to just talking either...apparently, on the sly, he's set up his own email account and needs to check his email each afternoon when I get home and he can get my phone.

Dinner rut

We have our go-to list of dinners, but that list needs to be shaken up a bit and I'm counting on you to help me. What are some of your family's go-to meals?

Our short list is:
spaghetti with meatballs or italian sausage
buffalo chicken wraps
whole chicken in the crockpot
chicken with cream of chicken soup and rice or noodles
spoonburgers (like sloppy joe's)
marinated london broil
black bean and salsa chicken

ETA: Chili should be on the list too. Thanks ladies for the ideas!

Big boy bed

We converted Owen's crib to a toddler bed back in October. I was nervous about making the transition, but he's done great with it. He made a couple of middle of the night visits complete with a grin and 'Hi Daddy!' and has given us a few early mornings. We told him he can't come downstairs when it is dark outside, which has taken care of the middle of the night. A baby gate positioned in his doorway has taken care of the early mornings.

I finally got his bedding a couple of weeks ago...he loves his bedding and big boy bed! The first week or so he kept wanting to play going night night and has taken every visitor we've had up to see his big boy bed and shown them how he goes night night. He's done a great job of making his bed each morning, some days without even getting a reminder. I can't believe how fast Owen is growing up.

Last Saturday, Owen and I went to the local Children's museum to celebrate with Wesley and at their 2nd birthday parties. We had a great time.

Driving a 'PS' truck. We can't get him to include the 'U'!

In the afternoon, we celebrated the birth of Baby Karthika (shortened to Baby Tika by Owen). The entire way to Karthika's party, Owen kept saying he was ready for more Bob the Builder birthday cake. He got to meet and play with Hudson and play with a few other little guys. We had great time. It was fun to see Owen run around with a group of boys since he seems to always be surrounded by little girls.

Hair cuts

A new year and new haircuts. It's a good thing we've got a barber in the family.

Owen was a big boy and sat in the chair all by himself, but of course he's a pro at hair cuts by now. Up until now, he's sat on one of our laps. It was a long time for him to sit still and Uncle Ronnie finished just in time.

Anderson's before...

This isn't so bad...

Why are you doing this to me?

All better...

View from the back

Waiting patiently for the tub to warm and fill (the cast iron tub is soooo cold!)...

I love the little dimpled bottom!

This one cracks me up...looks like they are riding along.

Owen painted some flower pots for his grandparents for Christmas. He had a blast doing them. He received a water paint book and some finger paint for Christmas, but being the clean kid he is, he prefers to use a brush instead of his fingers. I'm amazed at how long he will sit at his table and paint. His continued development amazes me...he was painting with yellow and told me he was painting the sun.

Growing Growing

Our littlest member is growing growing growing. He is mobile. It isn't the most graceful crawl, but he gets where he wants to go. Aaron's mom and grandma say Anderson crawls like his daddy, sort of like a wounded man. He is more on his forearms than hands and drags an arm and frog hops with his legs. He does get on all fours and I've seen him crawl the usual way, he just doesn't yet consistently coordinate all those movements together.

Then, on Sunday, I laid him on the floor, walked out of the room. When I came back, the little guy had pushed himself up into a sitting position. When I went in to get him up from his nap, he was sitting in the corner of his crib, sucking his thumb and had the proudest grin on his face. Guess what Aaron got to do that afternoon? Lower the crib.
